 The James Clarke Column

Revenge of the Gods - James Clarke

The following is true, I have just changed the names.

Tienkie van Jaarsveld, an upright resident of Gekdorp in Gauteng, spotted dagga growing in the ANC mayor's garden. Oh Mintig! Oh Skandaal!

She took pictures and gave them to the local paper. Townsfolk shook their heads. Surely God would punish the town.

The floods followed.

A local paper printed the pictures.

The mayor, Goodness Graishis, said the whole thing was a plot against the ANC. Gekdorp is known for its plots. (In fact many people live on plots with up to three dozen rottweilers each, three French hens and a Volksie under a pear tree.)

Then he suggested somebody must have spread the seeds to incriminate him.

Enter the municipal horticulturist. It wasn't dagga. The plants were marigolds.

Oh, the relief! Oh, the disappointment!
